Active in the Seeland Region
The Bernese Seeland Region in the Swiss Mittelland (central Switzerland) is located at the foot of the Jura Mountains. There is a whole range of interesting things to discover and enjoy in this region.
Sports
The Seeland region, which features a large network of paths over open ground and relatively free of auto traffic, is ideal for bicycling, roller skating, hiking and horseback riding. These routes feature signposts for the different routes (including the Vegetable Path for discovering the vegetable farms in the region, Cycling in Switzerland). There are many other signposted adventure trails such as the Witches' Trail starting in La Neuveville on Lake Biel, the Planetary Path on the Weissenstein, the Seeland Culture Path (Jura Waterway Correction Project in 19th century), the History Path starting in Gottstatt etc.
Water sports fans will find Lakes Murten, Biel and Neuchatel within easy reach for wakeboarding, canoeing, sailing, diving etc. as well as diverse ship cruises (Three Lakes Cruise, Full Moon Cruise etc.).
Other activities: Miniature golf in Studen, Swin-Golf in Tschugg, Go-Kart Track in Lyss etc.
Places of interest
The Bernese Seeland Region is easily accessible. That means you can travel quickly with no problem from Ins to larger cities, such as Berne, Neuchatel, Fribourg and Murten, all of which are well worth a visit. But there are also many smaller and attractive towns in the Seeland Region such as Aarberg (town square, wooden bridge), Laupen (old town), Erlach (gateway to the St. Peter's Isle), Avenches (archaeological excavations from Roman times) etc.
On rainy days you can visit several smaller museums in the Seeland Region: Viniculture Museum Hof in Ligerz, Farming Museum Althaus Jerisberghof, Rousseau Room on St. Peter's Isle, Albert Anker House in Ins, Latenium in Neuchatel etc. Also well worth a visit are the Papiliorama in Kerzers and the Nature Conservation Center La Sauge in Cudrefin.
